Notes About The Poem
Silent One's 'Dear Poetry' Contest ~ August 31, 2026

Dear Poetry
My Dear Poetry,
It's to you I turn when I need to set emotions free,
when tragedy or melancholy takes a tantamount toll
I write verses of lost loves that open the cage door
and I take flight, spreading my wings as my pen bleeds
You've become my heart's blood with each drop I spill
and never do you turn away or keep me at bay.
You unshackle me from enslavement's fettered chains
My lines are filled with aggregations exposing angst
You are a soul soother, who has no need for tethers
It’s you who heals my wounds with feather light kisses,
And shields me from woes with each line I compose.
You are the voice helping me to rise above the sea
What I write is a litany, recited across wafting waves.
Dear Poetry, you are the whirling wind billowing my sails,
navigating me to places away from painful pitfalls
You are rhyme endings that stir seductive Sonnets
longing to escape from where I've kept them hidden
To you, I cleave as if you value me as a treasure.
My protector, and I the morose morning glory vine
clinging to your garden trellis, trying not to wilt.
That's when you breathe anima into chasms of my soul.
Poetry, you are my equilibrium between joy, and sorrow
when life's adversities attempt to steer me off course.
The inspiration tickling me in a soft subtle breeze,
temptingly teasing the tresses of my tangled hair.
For the honor you bestow, I bare my conscience.
I see in you the splendor of sunrise mornings
instilling the need to compose a refrain of lyrics.
We are woven together with threads of silver and gold.
Abandoned, I would be an inconsolable child of charity,
a dismal derelict, a vagrant vagabond living in exile.
What good is parchment if you close your portal to me?
Useless, a feathered quill without you, my muse
I've great need to stain parchment crimson red
or lost I will remain in the indulgence of life's inequity.
