Dear Heart

Dear Heart, I apologize It was not your fault Or mine I had to hide you shield you, protect you unknowingly allow you to harden tinged by anger scarred by hate fearful of exposure blinded by the darkness of another’s soul. And yet you rose Outgrew the bonds Of fear, of doubt Of shame That was not yours Broke free To love again Allowed yourself To be loved For you are stronger More tenaciously heroic more forgiving Than I. ©1/29/2023 Dear Heart Poetry Contest
