Notes About The Poem

One day, without warning, or at least any warning you paid attention to, you realize you are going to see that other side sooner rather than later. But we all will. It is what it is!

Dear Heart

Heart, you have been good to me.
For ninety-some years you have
Beat steadily and faithfully.
I can hardly complain when
You finally begin to get tired
And start missing some beats
and then run too fast
to try to catch up with yourself.
Some days you are just weary
And want me to stay in bed.
You now give me a little music
When I walk too fast,
Sort of a whistly wheeze.
Is that to compensate a bit
For making me short of breath?
I will try to be patient with you
And wear support stockings
To help you out a little.
We are getting old together.

Greetings Barbara, I hope that your irregular heat rate has been stabilized by medications + good medical care. I, too, have atrial fibrillation which exhausts me - hence your poem truly had impact for me. Take care of yourself. Sincerely, Brian
