Dawn Bells

My waking hour, around all are asleep,
the day unfolds like petals on a flower,
as Sun's first rays across the treetops creep
the village church far off proclaims the hour.
Throughout my life those distant bells have peeled
most of the time unnoticed, life went on
but hearing them reach out across the fields
reminds me of something to dwell upon.
From dawn 'till dusk we live lives hurriedly,
commitments and distractions rule our thoughts,
sometimes I feel I swim an angry sea,
life's problems are the nets in which I'm caught.
To call for help is pointless in such noise,
my voice drowned out, it seems a wasted prayer,
I need to seek this calm the dawn enjoys
to listen, and then suddenly he's there.
God's care and love for us will never cease,
we find him in those precious times of peace.
