David's Song

David’s Song Little one, I have watched you growing; Seen the joy of life stolen from your very soul; Seen the wonder of your world disappear into a haze Just beyond the reach of your hand, Little one, still your feet would fly To the sun – running to catch the light; For somehow, somehow, you still hear the music of the God of life Singing in your heart and your soul. Little one, looking at the night sky See the stars above twinkling in the clearest light; In this time of dark and dreams God still speaks possibility Calling out your name – calling you. Little one, every day I pray to God above You wake up some sunny day to speak God’s words of love For though you cannot talk hidden in your smile Your Creator’s face in your eyes! For David and all those who suffer with autism

Sam, what a lovely song for David. Going over to Jango later today to listen to it again. I'm surprised I haven't left you a comment here before, because I feel this is the most powerful kind of song - one written to be a blessing for a specific person in a specific situation. God bless you for this song, and for your ministry as a godly grandmother to David. Beautiful. "You still hear the music of the God of life".

I did enjoy the song, Sam, in fact I love it. It reached deeply and touched my heart. I know how much you love that boy and want God's best for him, and God put you in his life for that reason. Bless you for putting these longings into song and sharing with your poetry community. Hugs ~ John

Thank you Gregory for your wonderfully kind thoughts. I am honored this is going into your "favs." I too am inspired by our children, what they say, what they do and how we experience life together. Any time I get to share this piece is a joy for David is a joy. And, he loves music!

Thanks for sharing this truth poetically expressed. It's indeed a blessing to see our special children delighting themselves in the Lord, which surely delights us likewise. (Please extend my warm regards to David.) God bless you.

Beautifully written, Sam. My prayers go out to David and the others that have been born with things such as autism and the many other disabilities that may be. My girlfriends son was born with cerebral palsy and some form of autism so I can feel your pain with David. Blessings my dear friend. Charlie

Hi Charlie, thank you for your prayers and your continued encouragement! Autism is such a mystery. I wanted to honor David and others who struggle with this condition. I so appreciate your support in prayer - so does David. My prayers for the son of your girlfriend. Blessings to you dear friend.

I seldom call a poem a 'fav', but I will with this one--for you show clearly one of the many ways God elicits love in us for another. [I also relate as I had a severe speech defect as a child--basically spent years learning how to pronounce every letter in the alphabet-- of course now, they can't shut me up!] May God bless and keep you and yours, Sam...

A beautiful lyric dedicated to David and those , confined to their own world. I know of the condition but I don't know a great deal about it. One thing I do know is we are all equal in the eyes of God. Well written Sam. Tom

Jan, thank you so much for your response. David loves music - have been working with him using melodic intonation therapy with super results. And, we are so grateful for dedicated professionals like yourself! You make a difference and we are so grateful!
