Daughter

DAUGHTER
You live in a world that's crazy
  you feel, you love
      but you act lazy.

I live in a world of pain
     people come every day
their eyes full of living rain
somehow I find the things to say
to ease their hearts, to give them hope
My words of wisdom provide a rope
upon which to hang while they heal.

But you who came from within myself
I cannot reach to help you feel
the love I have for you alone.

Out upon the world you roam
lost and tossed upon the seafoam
      of life's desire.

I see you reach your friends
and them teach the meaning of life -
   - to be there when there's strife.
            You judge and criticise me
But you being I is what I see.

You feel and love and offer self
this is all I ever do.
My need for your love hurts too much
I try to show it buying shoes.

Will we never heal the past
                        It cannot be undone.
                            Time happens far too fast
My love for you will always last

                                                                                MOTHER

Beautiful ode to self and daughter Virginia Waters. I thought perhaps the past could be changed, it can't. What is gone is gone and that is Time, like sands falling through loose fingers and hands that once held a child's. We have to live in the "Now", for ourselves; daughters and sons leave, some return, some don't. Tomorrow is the future and what is is and will be. Eat the cake and buy the dress and shoes for yourself. Lots of love to you. x

There is a lot of sense in what you write, Virginia. I am sure that many can relate to all kinds of relationships between children and parents. I believe that it is in growing up that things start to fall into place...after all we once were on the other side of the fence, too! Regards // paul

"Still Waters run deep!" Well done! Now write a poem about "Virginia Waters" - my ancestors lived on Ballengers Creek, so I know there is much you can write about! Aloha! Rico

thanks. Where is Ballengers Creek. People mainly connect me with Virginia Water near Marlowe in England. I have a million anecdotes from those conversational meetings! V is a poem about me personally

Unfortunately; Many do not see the wedge between parent & child until it's really large. One can only hope not too large, though. Keep the faith.

Yes, or perhaps more that they feel powerless to bridge the gap. It takes both sides to meet and that is the rub. Fortunately growing up is usually the answer.
