Dandelions

Dandelions are Mother Nature’s gold medallions, Hated by master landscapers as obnoxious weeds Marching across manicured lawns like battalions, A whiff of wind releases thousands of their seeds.

I have several poems on the hated lawn squatter, the dandelion. They're edible and a good source of vitamins, and they make a good wine. New Englanders have known and appreciated it for a very long time. I love its geodesic construct with it turns to seed. / Maurice

I love dandelions -- living in the country, the only thing I get rid of is those horrible prickly thistles that are no fun to step on barefooted.

I hear you, and I agree, Caren...especially when you are walking in your yard barefooted, which I like to do in the summer.

Medallions and battalions -- very clever! Two thumbs up. (That's all I got). Smiles, Gershon

That certainly is a good way to look at them, John.

So true, Rico, and that's why they are "gold medallions!" All of the yard flowers have uses. I have a friend who makes violet jelly, which is delicious.

They say a rose in a bed of tulips is a weed.

So they say, and I suppose that is true if you are a real stickler for order. I love everything that blooms, and I let my yard go uncut for as long as possible because I know those blooms are natural pollinators. If it is beautiful, I let is grow wherever it is comfortable. You know, bloom where you are planted, and all that.....

While I don't like dandelions in my lawn or garden, they are a whimsical delight in in the wild. Your poem has captured that whimsy. Blessings!

Just think of them as little yellow flowers decorating your lawn, Sam. No matter what you do, they'll appear from time to time. Try some of their leaves in a salad.

Such a colourful plant and they call it a weed, A few in the garden adds a bit of colour, Tom

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Tom. There really aren't that many beautiful yellow flowers, so they can be a splash of color.

Les Dents De Lion - translated - "The teeth of the lion" (In their golden state anyway) I love dandelions and love your poem. Cheers - Gary

Thank you, Gary. I can see that some do, some don't...to each his own. I have a neighbor who spends most of his summer battling the small yard flowers like dandelions and violets. I just enjoy them.
