Dancing With Description- Contest

Alarm as mind is hurled in icy cage
deaf to what between them nurses said,
orchestra of terror took the stage
and heartbeat had took refuge in my head

'Just keep you're breathing steady, won't be long,
you're doing well', consultant's last remark,
metallic taste was forming on my tongue,
a whistling in my ears heralded dark.

wide eyed, frozen, hands on rails tightly cling
helpless, supine, outside my comfort zone,
nerves tighter than overtuned guitar strings,
surrounded, yet never felt so alone.

It still walks with me now, I shan't forget
The day that fear and I finally met.

Thank-goodness it's over for now. Not a pleasant thing to worry about. But we are lucky to have such services. Imagine how it was before general anesthesia. Ouch. When given the option, some procedures can be done without it, but it requires some faith and most people will decline.

This one will strike home with so many of us who have experienced this same fear. It is such a human experience, that happens every day, but to each one who is the patient.....it is one of the most vulnerable times in our lives. Well done!

Yes, Carrie, to the operating room staff it's just a production line, but to first-timers it's almost the end of the world. Thanks for dropping by, Viv x

My heart goes out to anyone going into surgery for the first time, Lindsay. Well, not in a medical sense, anyway. Thanks for stopping by. Viv
