Dallas - November 1993

Flyin south to Dallas in a cold November rain with this continental climate weather there may be the same. There’s money from two countries janglin in my purse and stories from two families caught up in this verse. The airplane’s almost empty and I’m stretched across two seats tryin to connect things that are always out of reach. Haven’t yet had time to miss you and I really won’t be long though last time I was in Texas I know I did you wrong. Now I’ve never stayed in Dallas seems I’m always passin through thirty years ago in Dallas JFK passed this way too. So you’ve read it in your paper seen it on your TV screen but what’s real, what’s illusion and what’s caught up in-between? Now when I remember Alice I think of Texas in the spring with the wildflowers bloomin redbud out and warblers sing. But Alice isn’t here now smoke and booze - they took their toil Messy life and lonely death now she’s one with Texas soil. There’s an ice storm now in Dallas but the plane is coming in red sun hangin low o’er Dallas let another record spin.

This almost seems as if I'm listening to the lyrics of a folk song......story told to music. Great job, Dave!

Thanks Carie, the line between music and poetry is fine. At that time, the Cowboy Junkies, Trinity Session album was going through my head and in my mind I hear Margo Timmins singing. I dabble at the poetry part but an musically inept since scrawling "I hate piano" in my exercise book as a 10 y old.
