Dabbling In Poetry Forms
It was a day like any other, nothing special planned that day
Neighbour's children were playing I could hear laughter over the wall.
An ear piercing scream was uttered, instantly chilled me to the bone.
Gathering my senses I sped outside, shouting "What has happened?"
As the scream ceased to roar, then with a mighty leap I looked over
In seeing no-one there I took to my quickened heels
Pounded on my neighbour's door and puzzling shook his head
"No children here today, maybe what you heard was a screeching cat"
Reluctantly retracing my steps still shaken from hearing the anguish scream
"Wait just a minute I've remembered", my neighbour came out and up to me.
Moving in I did hear something that made me jump outside my skin.
Happened a gruesome murder ten years ago to this very day
"A murder?". "Yes the father went mad and did slew his family"
With that fact ringing in my ears, I researched it on the internet.
Could there be another reason why for it to happen on this day?
My neighbours and I are the only one's here for miles around.
Toxic waste seepage was the cause in the year 2072.
A huge mushroom cloud of gases exploded the township clear out
As us workers mined underground my family disintegrated.
Blown into dust particles widespread, we are the survivors
