Crossroads
Mankind has chosen to dwell at a crossroad -
One that poses a perpetual question;
"Should I stay or should I go ?"
A quest unremarkable in its simplicity.
Ah, but the answer is
everything.
And then the question became complex -
Should we travel to the stars ?
Perhaps colonize where we should not be
Without food and water and air to breathe,
And live where we were
not invited.
So came about the universal surprise -
Time and distance only exist on Earth.
Inches and miles and minutes and years
And seasons and sunrises do not exist elsewhere.
What of emotions
and love ?
So the crossroads multiplied and man withdrew -
Finding himself in a small computer,
He collapsed into a small window that he controlled -
Forgetting the question altogether.
And the answer was
everything.
