Somehow I missed this one before... Resonates all too well with me, unfortunately. The last line is a real gut-punch... Congrats on your win in the contest, Line. ~ Gershon

Perfectly titled, this poem. I lost a sister to cancer in 1998, after she battled 7 years and lost; not long after, I lost a cousin to it, as well; her father had passed from it, too. It's such a devastating disease; you've described it so well, in so few words.

You have described a disease I believe I recognized almost instantly when I began reading. So truthful and heartfelt.

Touching poem, I find the phrase "the lobby of life’s casualties" especially poignant and fitting. Excellent work!

My best friend is sick. He looks awful. A shadow of his former self. My heart breaks for him and there is nothing I can do for him. I talked to him last night and he is scared and I am scared for him. Your poem brings it home to me. i feel better having read it. It gives me another chance to flesh out my emotions about it. We have been friends for 47 years

It's so hard to feel helpless. I feel for you and him. Thanks for connecting with this poem, Timothy. I'm sure your friendship means the world to him.
