Coyotes In the City

Here’s advice that we’ve received In case we have a sighting Of wild coyotes in the park; The fear has been igniting. Just raise your arms and stand up tall, Pretending to be bigger, For apprehension such behavior In these beasts may trigger. Then hopefully they’ll trot away But if somehow they linger, Keep pets real close but otherwise Don’t run or lift a finger. In Central Park you’ll likely see A host of squirrels scurry. A rare coyote sighting, though, Means wave your arms and worry.

Your biggest fear of a coyote is not a bite but rabies and babies. Like cats, they prefer a back-of-the-neck attack, so tots are fair game. Email your poem to the Mayor; perhaps he will post it in the park? Aloha! Rico

Here we have foxes, they are getting braver coming into towns and cities looking for food. Are they a real problem? Tom

Hello Irene … this verse you wrote is something similar to a problem with dingoes around camping sites down here. You think they're friendly but they're after food, so I dare say coyotes will bite kids if they get close. I really did enjoy your most interesting verse Irene - Lindsay
