Cornbread and Grits

Dead folks in my hood.
I just watch Netflix and keep
my shades down.
Hoping I don't get killed.

I pray to the Lord!
And in the dark night,
bullets fly past my window.
Kinda makes me frown!

No matter what the experts say, what we see and hear becomes a part of our DNA. Children cannot help but grow up violent, If that is their only diet. Great writing!

Sorry I just saw this today. Kids and adults in the hood are glued to CNN. I have a friend living in the worst hood, she's convinced white folks sit about talking about killing blacks. There is no undoing what's in her head. Whites are evil. Yet, she eats far better than I do in a home with latest devices and appliances. Buys more clothes than I do and believes segregation still exists, congrats to the D Party. You have poisioned my friends life forever. Oh, it is an American tragedy. The media belongs behind bars. Panagiota.

The title drew me in as both my parents were born and raised in Georgia. Love the flippancy, a joy to read. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Right, my friend! Panagiota and bullets do not mix. I am sorry for my friend, however. Kids there get shot doing their homework. Many kids sleeping on the floor these days for safety. OMG Panagiota

My friend is Black and she cannot understand Black on Black crime. Plus no respect for the law. Kids are not raised the same anymore. Add Antifa. There are no whites or Latinos killing Blacks there. This is deep in the ghetto. We must remember, the whole world is not like that. The planet is not going to hell. Yes, news loves blood. Tune out, Tom.. Panagiota

Panagiota, I will worry still for those in harms way. Aren't we all? Be safe, be alive. -Richard

This is made up from a REAL email I got from a friend in the hood. I would not live in the hood. I Cannot explain why they won't leave the hood. I have encouraged her to leave to no avail. In the midst of murder, they insist on living in fear. They think the whole world is the hood? Honest.. I have been shot at and beaten in Chicago. It's a painful memory. PR
