Contentment

Retracing our footsteps
      smiling with the
beating of our hearts
the journey has gone full
circle
       the grey streaks of
your hair more visible now
the laugh wrinkles on my
face a
       witness to laughter
shared.

We still share the laughter
        you still hold my hand
When we take our little
walks before sunset
         I still feel safe in
your embrace…

The best free verse I have seen yet! I usually don't read them as there are no restrictions. This has emotion filled with time's precious moments. (pat's you on the back)

Your poetry is always so uplifting, dear friend. It is comforting to know that relationships like the one you describe do exist. If we haven't found one yet, we have to keep looking until the day we walk off into the sunset. Wonderful poem, Wilma! Love, Carolyn
