Consider Them

*Consider them - mere lilies
of the field that thrive with ease.
So glorious. . . there was not one,
not even fair King Solomon
as brightly dressed as one of these!

They do not toil. What qualities
do flowers have that we might seize
before our time on earth is done?
Consider them. . .

If we, like lilies, choose to please,
with simple faith, the One who sees
all things, we too will have begun
to be as these beneath the sun,
who bend with grace upon the breeze.
Consider them!

*(“. . . Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. . .” Matthew 6: 28-33)

I found the one you were trying to remember. Looks like I found it back in May. Perhaps you were considering it for the Faith contest sponsored by the BYU student? Anyway, I love it.

Your poem gets to the core of this passage with the words "simple faith". The lilies don't worry, yet God takes care of their needs. Beautifully stated.

Very moving, inspirational poem, Andrea. I love the wisdom of humility poured into this thoughtful poem. A gem quality offering. I think the didactic form is something I can excel in. Will give it a try. Yours is exceptionally good. Love and peace, dear.

Andrea,...to take scripture and turn it into a lovely poem is like a Biblical lullaby...gorgeous lines..the Hebrew utilized many poetic forms such as similes and metaphors in the Psalms...some directly link to this book of Matthew. A special congrats for honoring the inspired words of my heavenly Father. Luv, gwendolen
