Consider the Finer Things

Come, let us together consider the finer things Like mystical pyramids and fringed silk scarves Stones that bring comfort to the aching bone Intricate ebony statues the lonely man carves, A secluded stroll through a shaded pine grove The glimmer of a blue diamond in natural light, Warm feelings borne of proud accomplishment A billion stars shining in far galaxies in the night. Whispered words of love under the firmament, Wonder of the senses, feelings, touch, and sight Intricacies of a threadlike web brown spider wove, Cool mists that bathe the worn Mississippi wharves Scoops of frozen custard piled high on sugar cone A fine restaurant neither can afford, going halves, Enraptured by intricate trills the coloratura sings.

I think we would all benefit Milt if we took time out from the 24 / 7 media machine once in a while, step back, take a deep breath and just consider life's finer things. - whether they are deemed as a luxury or moments and things we humans just take for granted in every day life. A lovely poem. I feel better for reading it. Cheers - Gary

You describe elegantly a salad of favorites which appeal to my taste also, starting with the lettuce (let us). Thought perhaps the coloratura was a bird, alas, it is merely a human skilled like one. I enjoyed your piece very much, L. Milton.

Now that, my dear friend, gw, is one of life's finer things. Too bad I didn't think of it. Actually, seriously, I have spent hours watching ants at work. Incredible little creatures.

Me, too, Jeff. But, I can stare with wonder at a spider web, too.
