Notes About The Poem

Confronting Them In Court

There was no day when he was asked That he felt pride, away, outside A tree stood, a bird chirped, the wind howled He meekly stood, anxiety masked Outside a dog growled His eyes were turned inside, but captured That bird so bright Its frame so slight Sunlight danced sadly round his bouncing hair He bowed slightly for his captor And met his icy stare *** Here is today, he speaks again in words There is a fight To gain his right His fingers speak truth, his mouth supports Eyes overflow, vision blurred Confronting them in court No child ever should have to be there Should play outside Never be tied No child should be forced to face this But no one asks, life is never fair More a threatening abyss *** March 22, 2017 Copyright © Darren White

Great poem, Darren. Confronting them in court is so important, and must be so incredibly difficult, I cannot imagine. Your poems have been teaching me so much.

I admire your courage Darren. It takes but a little snowflake to start an avalanche - You are the snowflake - just start the avalanche of support. Strangely enough I've just been reading a poem that Cecilia Crasto has written today, supporting this cause.

Yes Tim, I completely agree. I face one more trial for one more boy. One more child, we were with eight, all western European children... it happens, it is awful. When I see my little niece and nephew I wish them a happy childhood, I'll fight for that.

Darren, my friend, this deep and frightening poem sent shivers down my spine. You are such a fantastic poet, you have a way of bringing people into whatever world you create, dark or light, it is always an experience every time I stop by your poetry. This was great.

Thank you so much Chris, for this wonderful comment. I am sometimes afraid that writing about the truth will be too much, but well, it happens, it was my life.

Hi Darren. I have been a child advocate and have fought for their life and innocence. There are no words when any child is harmed in any way or when any child looses his innocence. Never should there be one fallen angel because one is too many. Thank you for such a beautiful emotional piece. Honestly. This is so well expressed throughout. Have a wonderful night.

Oh Lisa, thank you. Advocacy like you mean, is what I intend to do in a number of years. When al legal hassle around myself has been solved. Thank you for your wonderful comment!!!

A lot to think about, Darren. Yes, that abyss, and always an ocean of pain at the ready, to be tapped into, or to flood upon our plate. What the world and adults do to children - I think the birds have it right.

In our world, children are often seen as ware, commodities. Horrible but true. Only sometimes one gets a chance to fight back. Birds can fly away, it was always a wish of mine to be able to, that's why I loved to dance so much :)
