Confessions of An Idol Worshipper

I worshipped words
Paid homage
Idolized their shape and form
Brought my paltry gifts
And laid them at the shrine
Of THE GOD OF WORDS
Hoping to gain favor from my idol
To be touched in such a way
As to imbue my simple writes
With perfection and immortality
Making ME
A goddess in my own right!

Daily
The same ritual
Obeisance
Following the rules
Soul salvation
In a rhyme
Penance:
The purging of my inner thoughts on paper
An exacting god
He needed full submission
An indwelling
And I was willing
But…..

In my darkest dungeon hour
Heartbroken and heart hungry
Needing my god
To rescue me
To shine out
To convey
To love me….
OH, TO LOVE ME!!!!
There was silence
“Why have you abandoned me?”
SILENCE
Forsaken

In life’s extreme elements
Face of death moments
Joyous new birth celebrations
Extreme love consummations
Fear frustrations

In all these extremes
My lips could not birth
My hands could not cradle
The children of my heart
Emotions still born

This god is dead
Omnipotence farce
Impotent
Impotent
Unable to satisfy
To create new life in me
A god unable

But there is a WORD
Living and Active
Stronger than Life or Death
Eternally past, present, and future
Always there
Omnipotent is His name
Omnipresent his love
Omniscient his wisdom
One WORD…
By which the universe came to be
Every flower, shrub, and tree
Every animal and lake and sea
Everything
By just ONE WORD
The true GOD incarnate
JESUS
The only Word
That can save
ME

John 1: 1 – 3, 14
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcomea it. 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Thank you, Rob. I'm so grateful for your visit and post. My heart is at times rebellious, but I count on His mercy and patience and unconditional love. I lose the plot sometimes. I'm also at a difficult time in my life....I was very passionate for Him, once. While there is life...there is hope. Thank you.

Hi Eileen! You know what....you could so easily become a preacher! You have the power of words and the ability to make good use of them. Material words could easily lead to distraction and falsehood....the divine word points to the truth and forms the basis of salvation. // paul

The sermon of the day so majestically delivered! Inspirational and didactic! John wrote in Greek! The word he used was "Logos" translated in English as "word" Logos means all you mention here and more! This is a note just for the reader. Logos, in a simple translation would be: The incarnation of God's will.

As Ye find the heart Ye find the Path to me...worship thy love. Isn't beautiful what unexpected love can achieve. There is a real genius of Faith in this poem Eileen. An masterful illustration of spiritual dichotomy. Beautiful! J.A.B.

Amen, I can relate. Through writing and reading we search for our place and fail to realize the word resides within us. A blessing can become a curse if we do not honour the source of our gift. God has been kind to allow us to express our hearts in this magnificent medium.
