Notes About The Poem

Another unfinished I found. I'd forgotten about.

Coming Home

Well I've been gone a long long time
And I got lost along the way
But I'm coming home now
I'm coming home to stay
I make no promises
I don't trust anything I say
But deep inside my heart is longing for a change
Just one more time
Lord won't You just show me the way
One more mile
Get me through another day
.
Looking back I know now just where I turned
And I remember well that lesson I never quite could learn
.
And this is my letter home
I wound up in many places that I just did not belong
And I've gambled on my future and I always got it wrong
Everything I trusted in only left me all alone
And now I finally realize
That Love has called me home
.
And that old tree is bigger now
But the Gate is still the same
The neighbor lady is a little older
But she still just smiled and waved
I walked on up the sidewalk
And when my feet stepped on the porch
I almost turned and ran away
As I was reaching for the Door
And then I saw Your smile and knew
It was everything I was longing for
.
Well I was gone a long long time
And sure got lost along the way
But I've come home now
I've come back home to stay
I trust Your promises
I trust everything You say
