Coming Home 2025
After year and a half, my son and his wife,
Came from East coast to visit me on the west coast,
I was so happy, I remembered my early days,
When I visited my parents in India from USA after 2 years.
In old days, the monthly postal aerogramme was the only messenger,
Every letter conveyed the good wishes and family news,
Now even though phone calls are only a fingertip away,
I get the text message from my family WhatsApp group.
Anyway, a message of goodwill and family affairs,
Is better than no message at all, it keeps our bond alive,
It is just the mere bodily presence,
Which counts more than flowers and video phone calls.
I thought we will get to sit and talk for few hours,
Their busy schedule of fitness and friend’s reunions,
Kept them busy from morning to bedtime hours,
I expected we'd walk in parks, but I couldn't keep up with their pace.
I am not complaining, just expressing my wishes,
From a doctor son, I expected some medical advice,
They trust so much on test results, they do not show their experience,
But I was assured that if anything went wrong, Doctors were in the house.
