Coffee Colored Memories

It's quiet whisper stirs my languid mind Inviting coffee colored memories A young man's face with future yet defined Each vapored breath a page in history Familiar apparitions reappear Whose images I dare not chase away The roads they traveled, washed out by my tears This morning's chill a bridge to yesterday Then as the welcome sun breaks o'er the trees I find myself attended by a smile Their goodbyes echo in the rustling leaves As I walk back alone those last few miles While standing on the porch I get a chill Although the morning breeze has now grown still Sept 11 2016

Exquisite . . . a deeply moving, touching nostalgia piece. The line "Their goodbyes echo in the rustling leaves" is brilliant. Thank you for sharing this masterful poem, Daniel.

Magnificence and metaphor in a Sonnet. Excellent job Daniel. I lingered on this to read a slower second time.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful memory Daniel. It touched me so. I moved back home for those very same reasons. I guess we learn to love what hurts us most in the most peculiar ways. I love coffee too in the brisk mornings. Sharon A (7) for me and another Fav.

Daniel , I do not often see sonnets here that are not only well metered, but they also use great words! I mean, this is a very intelligently written sonnet and it deserves a FAVE.

Enjoyed your sonnet and the memories it evoked. My morning cup of coffee is often the catalyst for a new poem which I jot down on a napkin at my favorite coffee shop. Thank you for reading me. Best to you. / M

Thank you so much for dropping by, Tracey. I drink coffee all day every day:) And yes today is another hot one here, also. Hopefully not much longer. But I still enjoy the early morning peace. I appreciate your kindness and always look forward to your friendly visits.

This I think is my new favorite of yours (but it's 3am so I won't make any official declarations as I might be punch-drunk) it's perfect in sentiment and rhythm and concise all the way around. I also feel inclined to piggy-back on Tim's comment and say of course the Bears didn't win. The Texans are legit this year; Reco'nize!
