Cockroaches of the Universe

There were elephants and bees... wild salmon, slugs, and trees
The Lord had blessed with Mother Nature as their nurse.
Along with flowers, birds and bats... jelly fish and tiger cats
To make this planet more ominifarious and diverse.

The Lord had algorithms to equate and ecosystems to create
All done at quite the hectic pace.
But all ruined when he stumbled and spectacularly fumbled
When against his better judgement... he made the Human race.

The Lord's embarrassment was such... he didn't visit much
But was later compelled to take a peek... he saw
The weather getting warmer with a MacDonald's on every corner...
It was enough to make a Deity want to freak.

The place in need of some repair... with pollution everywhere
With the forests and meadows now in deep decline.
But the thing that got his goat and really rocked his boat...
There was a Starbucks in the Church of the Divine.

The Lord in some revulsion considered our expulsion
But brought forth Salvation to improve our cosmic brand.
However... we compounded his frustration by flirting with damnation
Embracing vile habits sure to force his hand.

The Lord unleashed pandemics and eruptions.. epidemics and disruptions
As the Human Race in all its glory remained perverse.
But nothing seemed to work... against our oddities and quirks
Making us the cockroaches of the known Universe.

The Lord bent on elimination of our unseemly infestation
Pondered many years before he gave a shout.
The solution right before his eyes... prepared to say goodbye
As Monkey Pox was sure to wipe us out.
Yes... Monkey Pox was sure to wipe us out.

Now to those who doubt the Lord his gender as a Male
Should not prevail and give their head a twist.
For it the Lord was something other... or something quite another...
There'd be more flowers and the Human race would not exist.

I like the humor in this one. However, I am sure there are some humans that God still finds some traits more along the lines that He finds useful. Everything is going to be made right and whole once again, we just don't know the time it will happen as we pray come Lord Jesus. Your visit to my page was encouraging. Sara

Great write, David, the Lord did his work. Frustration of his children to rebel.

Woah wowww i think this is a masterpiece, scintillating and hard-hitting on the human species, deserved derision of corrupting polluting humans. Kudos for this entertainment at our expense, but since you aren't an outsider you can chasten humans wholesale. !! ^^^^^^^^^^^^>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<~~~~~~~ Plz also read and comment on my newest poem too.

We're an interesting species. But i think we're staring to get the hang of things. The road ahead looks good to me.

I was trying to channel my inner 'Monty Python.' I miss them. Have a great day.

A brilliant verse. But I have trouble judging God. I mean, I am in no way comparable to Him. Man causes his own grief then blames the Creator? Have you met Him? I have not. I did read your response to Kim. So, I know now you are more positive.. Good to know... you must be MENSA, honestly....l the burning of churches, the murder of Christians, worldwide, is so Kristelnacht. Wow. Have never seen the USA not care about us...we forgot we are not supernatural beings. Panagiota xx

This is a song from a musical I'm writing. The crux of the story is told by people who think God is only around on Sunday and they can do whatever they want on the other six days. These people have a warped view of what it means to be religious. It speaks to the false pride and hubris in their hearts. This song is sung by a character who has given up on the Human Race ever amounting to anything in a 'Monty Python' sort of vibe. But all will work out by the end. God loves us... but many people don't know that.

Great work here, David, from one of the so called cockroaches of the universe…lol! How weird and strange the human race and yet Father God sent His Son, a savior to redeem us and make us something beautiful.

I'm much more positive on things than my poem lets on. We have so much to be thankful for.

Kafka-esque, David! If anyone can make a deity want to freak, it's you, the Mighty McHattie. (Almost wrote 'Almighty,' there. Heh-heh). Cheers, Gershon

I hope God has a sense of humor... how can the Lord not. We are an odd and funny race.

Amazing poetry David, so many ways the human race has slipped off the shackle with modern day technology, Already there are those whom believe they are far superior than God.

A little humility in one's life is a must. Understanding there are forces at work greater than us should keep us that way.

I enjoyed your pondering and poem on our human race David, it’s quite easy to see we’ve developed through our human intelligence into something completely different than the regular flora and fauna, who knows maybe the big guns (Asteroids) will be brought out to finish us once and for all, cheers David
