Clad in Winter

Whirling flakes of fantasy softly tango, cheek to cheek, or modestly waltzing strangers. Blizzard whiteout buffaloes moon and starlight, cloaking the lovers. Frozen fountain, brazenly fetching, catching coins of ice, those stupefied flattened pennies. Queen of snow and fairies do bluster shavings. Breathless the statue. Snowmen slurry tottering, wayward listing. Melting, baring, chattering cherub crystals. Water flowing merrily whistles sport at winter’s undressing.

Lovely, Kim with just the right touch of alliteration throughout. The last thought adds an element of humor which appeals to me. Well-done, congrats on a fine sapphic stanza and on your placement.

For some reason, I returned to this one...you edited it, and it's soooo much better, Kim...wow, love your imagery and personification- "Queen of snow and fairies do bluster shavings. Breathless the statue." that is very, very deep

I love how your poem skillfully contrasts the beauty of winter's stillness with the eventual melting and transformation of the snow. The frozen fountain, once regal and "brazenly fetching," eventually gives way to the "melting, baring, chattering cherub crystals," signaling the change from the frozen state to a thaw.

No snow in Minesota for Christmas and then went home and not one flake last year. We will see what happens this year. Thank you, John!

Kim, this is simply brilliant but not simple. I loved every word, line and stanza. I Especially loved "Frozen fountain, brazenly fetching, catching coins of ice, those stupefied flattened pennies." Seriously this is a wonderful wonderful poem. Good luck in the contest. Danny

I can feel the cold beauty in your poem. I enjoy the personification of the snowman. Snow brings quiet to the earth.
