Cityscape (Evy)
It was Avia that introduced me to you
She is dead, you know
She died in Brooklyn ... boy, she was blue
I had seen you before
Always by Martin's Travel Service building
Is it the same as JUTA now?
You sold everything there,
You were the only who is who
We could afford to publish
And you had no prejudice
For class or status
Everybody's business was the same.
Why did you never cut that goitre?
Was that what rasp your voice?
I know few male who dared would fight you
And Avia said your daughters are all nice.
I remember you
From boyhood to manhood
Poor it seemed
But highly esteemed by all
Your tray before you trinket laden
Candies, cookies and toys
I once sought your balloon
Felt like Hansel when Gretel is gone
We wondered why you were so famous
Avia and I
We never knew
And Avia did not know either
So young
She was going to die.
