Christmas

CHRISTMAS It’s nearly that time of the year, When families come together to Celebrate the good cheer, That this 12th month offers us, It’s so wonderful and a pleasure Preparing for this Christmas fuss, And no matter if it’s spent in the North, South, East or West, For me it has always been one of The best, Days of my life, As a child, a teenager and wife! Presents are wrapped to give To loved ones, And cards are sent with tons Of love. A turkey is a must, And must be just, Cooked golden brown, With crispy skin I normally get into a flat spin. A ham is cooked from The day before, Last year I dropped it On the floor! Oh yes, there’s more, a Christmas Pudding with home made Custard that’s thick and creamy, I always taste, isn’t that what Chefs do on TV, it’s normally dreamy! I always visit mum and dad, Where they rest, and leave flowers, Sure that makes them happy and glad! We miss them all, Including my father in law, Wish they could call! The Christmas tree and small lights That flicker, look like a fairy Who takes pauses whilst telling us of The Christmas tree’s story And of a lifetime of Christmas’s and All it’s glory. Each decoration that is hung On our tree, Has been chosen, Very carefully, Each has a meaning for this Special day, Which will hopefully be there, For generations to come, As has always been done! After feasting on our late lunch, It’s time to open the presents, Some families prefer to open them early, Before brunch, Seven of us in all, including the lady That helps us which makes eight. Bright paper thrown around and Exclamations of glee, As each thanks the other happily! Each decoration, after Christmas, is Lovingly wrapped and put away So that they last. Inevitably when I sing Christmas Carols, I shed a tear, It’s a happy one, not sad, as we begin Getting into gear, For a week after Christmas, when We wish all a blessed and Happy New Year.

The Christmas season is the wonderful time of the year. Most of us have traditions that each family member looks forward to just as your wonderful poem expresses. This was wonderfully done and I felt like I was outside the window (in the snow and freezing temps) looking in on your holiday festivities. :)

Hi Chris, How beautifully you describe a Christmas scene. You could write a poem about it. I love the festivities, the goodwill, and the Christmas carols as well as the excitement of exchanging presents. Have a wonderful week-end Best wishes, Jennifer.

Thank you Heidi, Christmas is a perfect season, a time for faith, cheer, brightly wrapped presents and a time for family to all come together, and a Christmas tree which is put up a few weeks earlier to herald this special day. xoxo, Jennifer.

Thank-you so much James. I've always enjoyed a traditional Christmas. Going to church early in the morning, passing the cemetery to visit parents, finishing off a half roasted turkey, and looking forward to family joining us. All the best James Jennifer.

Hi James, Lovely comment James, thank-you. Tradition, values and norms after all, are the cornerstone of everyone's upbringing and it is so nice to hear that many people are are really happy to hear tradition is still practised and that it reminds them of their youth. Best wishes, all the best. Jennifer.

This poem brings back many many happy memories. Unfortunately my Christmas's for 3 years were put on hold, a lot of sad things happened in my family but thanks to my Grandson coming to visit last year I put a Christmas together that was a blast and hoping this year will be even better. Thanks Jenny. Kim

I'm sure it will Kim. I know you've been through the mill and have been burdened with a great deal of sadness - you and Graham deserve all the happiness and peace which Christmas brings. God bless! xoxo, Jennifer.

And for you too Caren! I have made so many good friends by joining poetry soup, that you are all like an extended family to me! i have up kept up the Christmas tradition and our sons and their wifes join us even though unfortunately they don't really accept the religious part, both are sceptics but many young people nowadays unfortunately seem to have this way of thinking. I do pray that one day a miracle will happen, but adore both of them , they are such kind loving people. xoxo, Jennifer

Never meant anything to me, but my late wife would have loved your poem as she and the children loved Christmas! Well done! Aloha! Rico

Hi Rico, I'm happy that your late wife and children enjoyed Christmas. I'm sure you joined in the festivities for their sake. Our one son is exactly the same, a real sceptic, but a kinder more gentle soul I have yet to meet. He celebrates every Christmas with us also for our sake. All the best Rico, always. Yasou, Jennifer.

I know my dad came from a family who struggled a bit but my mom quite the opposite, she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. I was an only child and got spoilt rotten by both of them. They had a godson who they spoilt just as much as his parents only bought him clothes for Christmas (as a young child)and my parents always bought him toys Our Christmas's were all special but still are as I have carried all the tradition through thank-you for a lovely comment Harry. all the best. Jennifer

Lovely Christmas verse Jennifer, can't come quickly enough. You're right, we always look back to past years and think of those no longer with us. Tom.
