Children of the Autumn Garden
Children of the Autumn Garden
Chrysanthemums arrive in fall
Yellow, white, maroon or rusty;
Some grow short – some grow tall -
They bloom when stormy winds blow gusty.
It comes into bloom when nor’easters blow colder
On hilltops, in valleys, its flowers get bolder;
A flower with petals of orange, scarlet centers,
Bittersweet comes when autumn enters.
Happy Marigold, you comfort my heart;
You bloom in the spring from the very start;
You bloom in the summer and into the fall;
Your heart so big, though you look small.
Cockscomb shouts out “Cock-a-doodle-doo!”
Struts his stuff in red or golden hues;
Loves the sunlight August to November –
Happy jester leaves us in December.
