For Verlena's Better word Contest

Pick up your rifle obedient child Live a complete life in just a few days Under your Sergeant's command Curl your finger around the trigger Kill with an unrepentant glee I witness the hate that coarses through your veins Seeping into you with the clarity of a true believer A moments hesitation will not stand in your way "Be all that you can be!" Everything has prepared you for this day Tighten the ammo belt around your waist Tomorrow you will be hailed as conquering son Empty your guts upon the expectant soil Red poppies will sprout from the acrid soil We will cry out to you promising Justice Ordering the next child to the front of the line Repeating the sins of all our fathers Death meanwhile, gladly accepts our gifts!

What a great acrostic Richard! Truth in every line. Death has a voracious appetite in time of war.

Richard your pen bleeds heinous truths, with powerful imagery, energy, and girth. There is no invisible elephant in this piece! :),jill

Yes, it has gone on somewhere in the world since the fall of man. One day soon our Prince of Peace will change this forever. Thanks for your visit.

What a horrific story! What a geat truth! Thousands of years of wars have brought not any solution and humanity refuses to change course of action! Time to change if we wish to have children in the future! Excellent dear Richard!

Richard, probably you do not remember but I work for peace for forty years now and my last book: An Aegean Breeze of Peace" which I am a co-author deals with peace in our area where Greeks and Turks are fighting each other for over 12 centuries. My co-author is a Lady from Turkey Dr. Hulya Yilmaz, professor of comparative literature! I try my friend, I try!
