Childlike

what do you say when there’s a gulp in your throat
the days float
i memorize the ebbs and flows
the wild turquoise blue
the sparkle that’s you

i become like a child
my voice squeaking out, “mommy…”

I didn’t know as you parent your parents
you become more childlike too…

Ha, ha! It sure is like that when you're in the middle of the 'caretaker sandwich.' Very insightful observation, this verse. Thanks, Kim

Very much true. As our parents grow old and need our help we become like them, are givers. ~~

Kim, such an emotional write, it touched my heart deeply, I asked myself as my mother's condition got worse, when did I become the mother? And after her death, I felt like the helpless child seeking mommy. This is a FAV for me _Constance
