Childhood Memories
"How sweet to the heart are the scenes of my childhood
Samuel Woodworth, 1785-1842
Childhood was war, depression and dust bowl
And then came victory over all three
Love refilled what had once been a great hole
Where lights were once dark the world could now see
Oh, I remember the smiles that returned
I could walk in the sun, happy and free
They came to us in series as we learned
To deal with the one then came another
War was the last and the last ember burned
Most of all I remember my mother
Love overcame what the world had taken
In spite of all she gave me a brother
No doubt the universe had been shaken
But what joy to watch my world awaken
