Cherry Chokehold

It was work week in boot camp. I had a bad cold.
I was working with two sailors, preparing desserts.
I ate a cherry off one dessert.

CHERRY CHOKEHOLD

the cherry chokehold
acute asphyxiation
black curtain climax
i’m fascinated
unexpectedly unafraid

heimlich births
a hapless cough

i return to my barracks
my life saved
my hero unnamed
unappreciated

many years later
it sinks in
and I routinely
ask God
to bless her

I hear you! If not for the grace of God...and a few of his unnamed angels -- at least for that day. We are complicated. Well said!

This sounds so real "black curtain climax i’m fascinated unexpectedly unafraid" and plausible. Nice pen!

I had a policeman save my life in SF. I was choking on thick wheat toast. It’s quite a story. And what a frightening experience. I wrote to SFPD and he was commended. Yours, Pangie

There is a whole lot of family that would not exist. I thank God and the wonderful sailor who knew what to do. Hugs ~ K8m

One life touches so many others. It's wonderful that this unknown person was there to touch yours when you needed her. Great writing, Kim.
