CHANCE SUMMER
[Verse 1]
She was seventeen, wild and free
Barefoot dancing by the sea
Golden hair and sun-kissed skin
The kind of girl that draws you in
He was just a Georgia boy
With a six-string and a heart full of noise
They met where the tide rolls in
Two strangers chasing the wind
[Pre-Chorus]
A weekend flame, a whispered name
No plans to stay, no one to blame
[Chorus]
But love don’t ask for reasons
It don’t care about the time
A kiss beneath that August sky
Would echo down the line
What started as a fleeting spark
Lit a fire they never knew
And from that chance summer
I came into view
[Verse 2]
Years rolled by like crashing waves
They lived their lives in separate states
Mom raised me with a quiet grace
But I saw him when I looked in my face
Then one day, the past called back
A message lost in an old backpack
He stood there with tears in his eyes
Said, “Son, I almost missed my life”
[Pre-Chorus 2]
He took my hand, she took his too
And said, “We made the best of you”
[Chorus]
'Cause love don’t follow logic
It don’t always need a plan
Sometimes fate and ocean air
Create a bigger man
A moment turned to legacy
That neither one outgrew
From a chance summer
I came into view
[Bridge]
Maybe they were never meant
To last beyond that shore
But some beginnings
Are worth so much more
[Final Chorus – with name line]
No, love don’t need permission
It shows up like a song
And leaves you with a melody
That lingers all life long
They held each other, looked at me
With eyes that somehow knew
That from their chance summer
They gave me the name too
[Outro]
Yeah, from that chance summer…
They named me Chance — and I came into view
