Author's Notes: "Champagne in Heaven is a Canzone that I completed orginally on January 9, 2018. This is the fourth Canzone I've written that follows the original poetic tradition of this particular format, as a precursor to the Italian and English sonnets that are more common today. The Canzone was significantly influenced by both Francesco Petrarca (or Petrarch) and Dante Alighieri. The version structure of this Canzone consists of "One Stanza" rendered in 14 verses (although Canzone writes can be longer too, up to 20 verses or more and set in Iambic Pentameter or Hexameter, depending on your preference). I kept this write in "Open Meter" this time. My purpose with this poem was to consider the prospect of, or a situation, whereby one might consider the possibility of "Champagne" being served in Heaven. In the poem, a new soul who has freshly ascended to Heaven, serves as my protagonist who takes it upon himself to test this humorous proposition. It was a lot of fun putting this one together!! I hope you find it equally interesting and entertaining!! With that, here's to a glass of "Heavenly Old Bubbly."
