Celebrating Eastertide

Celebrating Eastertide Pretty bonnets worn with pride, Chocolate eggs all wrapped in foil Paste eggs bubbling, on the boil. Children making no connection Between Easter eggs and resurrection, Dragged to church they sit and giggle Mothers chiding " don't you fiddle." Row upon row of well dressed sinners Thinking about their Sunday dinners. Numb behinds on ancient pews, How long to go? they look for clues. Mouthing hymns, too shy to sing At last the bells begin to ring, A sign the service is now done In collective sigh, they rise as one. From the endless sermon at last released, Now it's home, to drink and feast.
