Casualty of Your Cruelty

A person at times can feel like they are a casualty of cruelty, at least in some small way or other. Some attacked my early writing. Their scathing reviews I can’t forget, yet I persisted doing what I do. Not letting oneself feel defeated is the only way to continue - but your cruelty, my love, hurt worse. You did not want to read my special poem, so you threw it to the floor. It felt like you were stomping on my heart.

A risk we all take, those who write from the with heart. A pointed quill, a drop of blood -- all are inks are red...especially the bluest.

Deep, and painful as well- non poets or even envious ones don't always see how sensitive we are in what we write about, sorry you went through that

It was in my first five years as a poet but the things they said to me were quite nasty.

Andrea, what you describe sounds hard to forgive and forget. These sorts of rejections are perhaps the hardest of all to let go. Personally, I find that when I focus on the present, painful memories seem to fade. As you likely know, it's not an easy process. The subject ends up in all sorts of poetry as it is a common problem. Thanks for bringing it to light in this way. It's a good examination and hopefully someone you will not want to see this person again. Smiles!

I don't focus on this stuff. I simply could not come up with anything else to write about for that contest topic! The poem tosser is my hubbie. He detests poetry. So I never have to worry about him seeing anything I wrote here haha
