Carte Blanche

The double checkout line made clear That if you have a cart, You join the people on the left And help to do your part To move the lines much faster. If a basket you do hold, The right-hand side is where you go; The sign is big and bold. So there I waited; in my basket Three things I was buying. My line was long but moving fast, Most customers complying. But naturally, a few spots up, A woman did depart From courtesy and manners, For she pushed a filled-up cart. No store employee sent her back; Nobody reprimanded And those of us behind her Lacked the chops her move demanded. Some people think that rules exist But that they are exempt. Such selfish rude entitlement Deserves our best contempt.

I will sometimes do a few extra items on those ones that say 15 items or less if I don't have much more than 15 things, but I first ask if it's ok to the cashier because if i see a lot of people are not using the line, I just figure why not try it. That is extremely rude to use a basket line when you have a cart. I have seen customers tell off someone who is that rude, but it's very rare to see that. Too bad the grocery store does not ask their workers to demand it!

Actually, the more I think about it, I think I would have said something to her. Nothing gets my gall worse than such a flagrant act of discourtesy!

She was very lucky:) I would have had to publicly humiliate her had I been there. Sometimes public shaming is necessary as long as it's not yourself you are shaming.Great subject Ilene.

Another one well caught and scribed! My dinky mother-in-law would tear into such miscreants with a sharp tongue that sent many slinking out of the shop. Silence condones. Can I say, "Too bad more people aren't like my mother-in-law"? Aloha! Rico

Too bad I wasn't in line. I would have quietly gone up to her and removed everything from the conveyor belt, put it all back in her cart, and wheeled it away. I imagine that you think I am kidding, but I have actually done stuff like that recently. No yelling; no screaming. Just quietly doing what is right, and braving the incredulous stares of onlookers, and the self-righteous indignation of the rules-breakers. It works. :) gw

I've seen this situation at the Fort Carson Commissary (Army term for grocery store) too many times when in the Express line. There you can't exceed 20 items and they hold you to it. I've seen the checker deny people who exceed that and if they have already put things on the belt they'll make them take the stuff off and tell 'em to get there stuff in the proper line! Great write that expresses our frustration! Bob

Schools and parents need to step up and teach manners as they used to. To true! Too much entitlement. People forget there is a reason for manners, not to annoy but so people get along.

Got to say I find this infuriating Ilene I see it here from time to time, its like not rules apply to them. I dread to think what she would have said if she was put in her place but surely a member of staff should have advised her she was in the wrong place and I am sure other customers were silently seething but no one dare challenge her:-( hugs jan xx
