Comedian Carol Burnett
had a variety show I'll never forget.
She gave us much laughter and cheer,
sometimes just by pulling her ear.

Good write! I also remember her being on the late Garry Moore's show years before she was given her own show.

My sister's married name is Pettit - she lives in Texas - are you in the US? I cried when Lucy Ball died, same with Bob Hope, and I know I'll cry when we lose Carol. All three were part of my childhood and teenage years, you, too? Thanks for commenting, Robert! Poetry hugs ... CayCay

I loved this one; loved Carol, and loved the ear. Good luck in the contest. I have her biography, and it is a great, but sad read. All the horribleness she and her sister endured; going to the picture show was their favorite thing with the grandmother who took over and helped them.

I knew about hell with a daughter, but I didn't know about when growing up. I'll wikipedia her. I already know that I'll cry when she makes her transition. Saturday night, parents out, babysitting my little sister - CAROL BURNETT. Do you, by chance, remember the King Family? One of the cousins was married to the actor who played Robbie on My Three Sons?
