Carl Sandburg Inspires Me Such:

That as a youth I spoke with him about his love of poetic word. Free verse was ultimately everything written that he preferred. From rustic farming to city steel mills and laying of train rail; sea shores and boat docks to sailors setting vast sail. He wrote of simplicity of the people, of their life; revealing tragedy and hardships that cut deep like a knife. He painted pictures with words that brushed lightly across canvas walls; describing street fights and bar room sailor brawls. He had an imagination that was real and down to earth; speaking his mind and giving it everything it was worth. He wrote crude but sometimes delicate and charming verse; adhering to one main form as he was simply terse. “Fog” was a favorite of many scholarly school youth. The imagery in so few words, held so much truth. Speaking with him inspired my love for verse to ignite, and gave me the tools so I could eventually write. Copyright © 2010 By Caryl S. Muzzey

Caryl, you did an excellent job with this write. You addressed the topic, why he inspired you and HOW he wrote. What his themes were, etc .. I see nothing but a win with this one. If I recall, I have read a few of his poems and enjoyed them. LIke I said in my Poem Imaginist, I wish I could write like some of the most amazing talents in poetry. My muse mostly speaks in iambic pentameter. Alas for me, I was born in the wrong century. haha. LUv, Andrea

Yes...indeed a favorite of mine too....His poems inspire me to write of the simple things, that are often overlooked. A wonderful choice, Caryl. ~ Love, Carrie
