Calorie Counter Queen
I think I’ve gone on nearly every diet know to woman.
My journey started after age fourteen.
Before then, I was like a fan of “eat all that you can.”
Sparse eating days were far and few between.
My eating habits were those of a starved wolverine.
I have the gene called FTO; it means I don’t get full
when I have eaten lots of food; it’s in my DNA!
Translation: Everything I eat, I still want another mouthful. . .
another. . . and another, and since I am this way,
I had to start on diets, helping fat to melt away!
I did a lot of crazy diets in my teenagehood -
like eating just bananas all week long.
Any dietition will tell you THAT’s no good,
but I was young and stupid, and I’d go along
with all the diet fads, which were wrong, just crazy wrong.
I found a good one – Atkins, and later I found out
I am the Blood type O, so my body is its best
eating lots of protein (Keto), but I’d go without
those carbs I liked so much, and that made me depressed
until I read a book in which O’s “good carbs” were addressed.
“Eat 4 Your Blood Type” Diet helped me well to know
the types of fruits and other carbs I ought or ought not eat.
More weight I lost and then kept off a few more years or so!
I gave myself permission to even sometimes cheat,
for if you’re being mostly good, there’s no sin in a treat.
All along with every diet, I’ve made sure to count
the calories that each day I’ve consumed.
You can ask me anything. I feel like I’m a fount
of knowledge. Knowing calories so well, I have presumed
to know each day my “number;” If I go over, I feel doomed!
‘
In the last two decades I’ve still been up and down.
But mostly I am fit from exercise.
In counting of the calories, I think I wear the crown.
I just forego my lunch if for dinner I want fries!
Also I make sure each week to fit into my levi’s!
I got real fat for a few years, but then I got right back
to a healthy weight not too hard to maintain.
Imperfect habit I don’t lack.
From eating yummy foods I do not constantly refrain,
but I’m very careful that those pounds I don’t regain.
Finally, I learned what’s best when cancer came to me.
What I learned from getting that disease
was eat antioxidants! A wannabe nutritionist I now fancy myself to be.
I make sure to get in all the fruits and veggies that I please.
I think that in nutrition I’ve gained lots of expertise!
