Second Place

Writing is compulsion and yearning within,
for me a longing that I cannot ignore;
and in my nightly dreams words weave and begin,
I start to write and enter a magic door.
Driven by deep thirst and hunger I will write,
hours and hours slip away till I have it right;
mountains of discarded papers pile on rug,
as words embrace me in a poetic hug.
Penning words is my passion and obsession,
there is a joy to etch my words on paper;
to not write would mean for me sad depression,
ideas must be penned or become vapor.
I have an infatuation for the dark,
a cemetery will always make words spark;
have an intensity for poets of old,
their poetry has great wisdom to enfold.
In nature my hair is a streaming river,
as I watch clouds sailing across the blue sky;
the beauty of nature makes my pen quiver,
a flowing stream and birds singing makes me sigh.
And sitting still in natures decay are threads,
and where my poetic pen quietly treads;
like a child in prayer I find the right word,
then, the cacoethes soars like a wild bird
