In the gloaming, there she is
by the edge of the sea...
Rapt in contemplation; taking in
the beautiful, peaceful scenery. She enjoys
watching the sun set over the horizon,
the chattering of starlings in the scarlet sky,
waves splashing and exploding like dynamite
against the rocks.
She loves dipping her toes in the shallows,
the feel of the cool breeze on her skin.
She puts her faith in the majestic sea to take
all her woes and drowned them, to clear
the dense fog clouding her thoughts, to cleanse
memories too besmirched to retain.
The sea invites her to get away from it all,
and she returns ever and anon to find
some peace of mind, to listen to the sea reveal
its inscrutable secrets and confess
some of her own. Nothing else in the world
occupies her mind when she comes here.
Time lounges on the beach
fast asleep as she's lost in oblivion,
communing with ghosts of the past
and hopes for the future.
In the gloaming, there she is...
by the edge of the sea...
