Butterflies and Swans

Does the caterpillar understand it will become a butterfly so grand Does the tiny ugly duckling realize it will be a gorgeous swan, life-size Does the blind, featherless baby robin know that off into the sky, it will breathtakingly go They, of course, can't imagine these things ~ That requires a human mind with wings

Your poem made me think of stories I read to my kindergarten children years ago, the 1st being Eric Carle's, The Hungry Caterpillar, and a sweet little poem called, 5 Baby Robins In A Sycamore Tree. It brought back nice teaching memories for me.

Hi Gershon, ,Well guess we can't have it all but be satisfied with what we have, do you mean our minds must learn to be faster and have wings, or that a caterpillar, duckling or a baby robin could only imagine what they will become if they had a human mind.......... Hugs, blessings, Jennifer.

I think he does " Does the caterpillar understand it will become a butterfly so grand" - in an innate, natural way. Nice pen.

True. Then again, a human infant has no idea at that stage what life will hold. I saw a month year old tonight at dinner. I wondered what his life would be like, particularly looking over 80 years of living and what has transpired and developed. Intriguing question, of course.
