But Not Forgotten
I walked through the mostly, well-manicured cemetery
To once again place flowers on my Becky’s grave
Being that the day was nice and sunny
I walked along a longer path to get to her that day
Tucked into a corner plot, near the fence and all alone
Was a grave all covered with weeds – you could barely see the stone
I am not sure what drove me to it
But it just didn’t seem right and looked out of place
So I took my gardening tools with me and worked for hours to restore its grace
Carved on the head stone of this woman’s grave
Were the words, “Gone, But Not Forgotten”
The date of death was not so long ago
The irony of it all just seemed so rotten
As I talked to Becky, I said, “I hope you don’t mind - I gave your flowers away today”
“I’ll bring you some more tomorrow”
I knew she understood, because that was just her way
