Notes About The Poem

Buried Love

When love's chalice brims with passion's pain
from crooked hands now clenched within your mind
its wormwood draught is less the bile that stains
you spilled to cleanse the earthen floor of time
the rapture of this life now cleans my soul
as it bleeds deep in darker realms of shade
you drove the knife that cut the rose once whole
release my suffering heart as death persuades
this flower keeps no breath within its bloom
now drifting dark beneath the setting sun
flee from this world whose shadows I consume
as my heart dies, its death already done
a crumbled love lies dead inside my heart
buried beneath the lies as you depart

It’s so sad when love parts, the memories always have a place in one’s heart. Congratulations on having received Poem of the Day Frederick… Beryl

The final couplet says it all, indeed. Bury all the lies, after breaking the heart. Your thoughts caress gently around me. Congratulations Frederic, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Your poem explores the themes of betrayal, mortality, and finality. The love isn't just fading—it is violently destroyed ("drove the knife that cut the rose") and definitively buried. "wormwood draught," "darker realms of shade," - Beautiful imageries. Congratulations!

Frederic, A stark picture that you painted when love is shattered and the immense pain that it causes and takes time to heal, if at all. Congratulations for potd.

A powerful Shakespearean-style sonnet whose steady rhyme scheme contains a raw, grief-darkened portrait of betrayal. The chalice, wormwood, severed rose, and burial imagery deepen the sense of love’s poisoned aftermath, while the closing couplet delivers a stark, memorable finality. Congratulations on POTD

Hello Frederic, Congratulations on POTD on the true demise of a relationship, which doesn't happen when the partner physically steps out the door, it occurs the precise moment the illusion shatters. Your poem is evocative, rhythmically solemn, and carries a haunting, mournful dignity. Powerful and deeply memorable work, Frederic. Blessings, Daniel

Thank you, Ink, dear poet, this contest said no rules so I posted a poem I wrote in 2018, I wish contests would allow older poems, but that's just me, again thank you for your kindness😊
