Buffalo Nickel

In change wherever you go, on a nickel, you will find Monticello. It was not that way years ago. The reverse depicted a buffalo. Thomas Jefferson also is shown to date. He has been there since 1938. A Native American chief was once there. He could be found on nickels everywhere. He made his debut in 1913. Today, these coins are hardly ever seen. A woman once said something to me that was funny. “Don’t give it to me. I only want American money.”

You sir, are very witty. I have written a small poem in your honor titled 'to Robert Pettit' although I am not sure I want to read your review of the same. No, I am kidding. I appreciate greatly your reading and commenting on my work. I love the reference to Cranston on my 'Shadows' piece. Very good. I have been reading some of your work as well. I will write on your 'Filibuster' piece in a few minutes. You have a darkly humorous sarcastic pen. I enjoy your 'forthright' poems. Deb

Well, you had me foraging through my purse because I know I've seen nickels with the Native American and the buffalo on them, Robert. But if I hadn't read your poem, I wouldn't have known the building on the coin was Jefferson's home. The last two lines are really funny!! What I don't find funny is the movement now to take "In God We Trust" off dollar bills. You are convincing me that a "history" contest is in order and I will post one soon. Really enjoy your work! Love, Carolyn
