Broken-Hearted Woman's Song

Broken-Hearted Woman’s Song

This is a broken-hearted woman’s song
with lyrics that would make the angels weep
of loneliness in life that lasted much too long
a disappointing, sorrow that cut deep.

Many nights this woman’s tears were shed for love
while others used its name so carelessly.
The actions that she took, no other one should judge
for each of us thinks of ourselves, you see.

She’s been near strangled, scorned and verbally abused
all along having qualities of gold.
Most people thought her goodness was just to be used.
With lies and courtesies her love they stole.

Yet, I see her smiling now, head unbowed.
Where does she get the strength to go on living?
She says that of each battle scar, she is proud.
Life has taught her how to be forgiving.

A beautiful expression of what it means to be forgiving. We learn most often through heartbreak. Wonderful and so deserving of first placement Janis! Congratulations! : )

Your poem is eloquently powerful...and raises so many "whys": why put up with it, why stay, why suffer!! "But wait - hope!" "Where"? "There, my friend...there...just below dawns newest horizon". "What colours does this bold knight sport, friend"? "Colours"? "Why bless you friend he is my Lord Internet -- and he has come to unite this world"! They say talking never solved anything...I beg to strongly differ! Humbling and sobering poetry! My best regards, Janis. :) john P.s Very beautiful too!
