I'm insanely jealous of anyone living in such an area right now... Ah, warm weather and natural beauty!! All I can see is the $%^%$$##@#@ snow in Chicago wherever I look. Nice monoku, Carolyn! :) gw

Well now that we're both 'insane'---can I still congratulate you on your winning monoku? It really is a gorgeous tribute to America's southernmost vacation state. :) gw

Beautiful write and beautiful photo to accompany it, dear Carolyn! Glad you liked While America Sleeps. As I mentioned in response to comments by another souper, the title could also have another connotation - we are all sleeping while America is seemingly going to hell in a hand-basket and it is so sad. Enjoy your temperate climate in FL - its cooooolllllldddd here in Col!!

Some of us are actually losing sleep because of this shutdown, Bob. Your poem is awesome!

A beautifully coloured Monoku, Carolyn. Alas, it is near to impossible to see such awesome birds in Malta! Only a few stop by for a rest while on their journeys. Hugs // paul

Transient butterflies pass through Florida each fall, so we take advantage of that time to visit places they are known to congregate. Hope you've had a chance to see the birds who pass through Malta, Paul.

so nicely revised. You could even stick "and" into it and be on count! I did not realize the purple contest had to be rhymed, so I did purple thinking I could kill two birds with one stone and use my monoku in that other contest. Silly me!!

I try to avoid using articles and contractions too much. Best wishes on both of your remarkable entries, Andrea!

I never saw either a blue heron nor a flamingo, you made them sound beautiful in your poem, Carolyn. Perhaps one day I'll journey to Florida to visit them...and my two brothers and sister who reside there...lol Very Nice! Hugs Charlie

It's 17 syllables max, so this was revised to 16.

beautiful and colorful, my friend. I just saw another one that was using two lines too. I should read her rules again. If we don't have to keep it on one line, that really helps us to add details!

Thanks for the tip. She did put 17 syllables as a max for the monoku, so I updated. Appreciate the input, Andrea!
