A sad comment on our world and the manipulation of youth through fear and torture. Subtle use of the Tanka.

Powerfully said. Amazing isn't it, how a tanka can capture so much in few words! Congrats to you, Andrea!

Andie, I really like the last four lines of this tanka.. meaningful!! However, the first line regarding the white fences.. ( me and James wished we know the writer of this because we want to know what you referring too)..... but the other lines take it all: the contrast between videogames and real one. CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for participating!!! =`) ~Olive Eloisa

thanks for the win. Maybe it is not in other countries. White fences rare a symbol over here for the "good life" and a secure environment. So I was contrasting those safe happy kids playing at war vs. the other poor kids!

You compare harmless games with ugly reality, and the contrast is stark and strong. No doubt...this is abuse of human rights. // paul

Frightening isn't it. That what is a toy in one place is a weapon in another.

Very powerful words you chose for your Tanka that expresses two different worlds, Andrea. So much said in so few words about this horrible abuse. I chose the same visual - different form and more words! All the best for the contest. Sandra

Reality in war torn countries. To us it is unimaginable. Real life Call of Duty with dire consequences.

Boys love war games. I used to make guns out of old orange crates. How sick is it to let children murder. good work Love, daver

Yes - war games are a problem - they lead to real war. I do remember playing with toy soldiers as a kid. Stimulating write! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Yes.......sad and startling contrast to the innocence of children playing war ....and the wars of reality!! Even I played with brother, pretending ......never giving thought to the violence going on in the world. If only all children couldn't savor their innocence, what a sweet world it could be.
