Bough Breakers

Outside the catered candle lies my venomous volume of lies I lie to live I lie to fit in I lie to test myself among other liars I lie almost every day to the people I love And those I despise I lie like a lion among lionesses I lie like a drug addict in rehab I lie like a politician on vacation I lie like a musician on speed I lie because lies are easier than the truth I lie not to have to tell the truth Not to have to think About some transcendent moment Some billowy breakdown Some nasty narcissus I lie to live I lie to die I lie to play with my eye The river by the park is lush and green But people see only the park They see only what they want to see But I am crazy because I see what is I see broken people walking down asphalt roads wearing their polluted hearts on their backs The same backs they once used to climb and run The same hearts they danced around and forgave I lie to be noticed
