Notes About The Poem

Born To Say Goodbye

He was still breathing,
but they did not hear his sighs.

His heart was shivering,
but they did not see it trembling.

His body was on fire,
but they did not feel the heat.

His tongue spoke,
but they did not know his words.

Her perfume still lingered,
but her image was now a distant silhouette -
a figment of dark pigment, haunting his mind.

Maybe infertile seeds,
were the reason for her vulnerability.
Maybe his adolescence,
struggled to understand her delinquency.
There was no explanation for the voices,
as demons had disturbed her existence.

Nobody understood.. Not even he.
Who was confused to why she let them in.
He always remembered vividly,
he could not stop her blood from flowing,
nor did his kiss of life save the day.

Songs from that era,
haunted him for decades.
Too bitter to shed public tears,
he constantly cried in his sleep.
Till the day he forgot to cry,
motionless, he felt nothing.

If only he had listened to his conscience:
Because right from the start,
she was born to break his heart.

Simple musing

Breaking up with one's love is heartbreaking. It is breaking with harmony.. It is falling in pure contrast.. "He was still breathing, but.. His heart was shivering, but. His body was on fire, but." It can also be devastating "till the day he forgot to cry" and the cruelest thing "he felt nothing".. In this very state of love the supremacy is to reason "if only he had listened to his conscience".. An amazing poem Silent One keep it up.

A very dramatic poem...with deep sadness. It evokes an emotional response in me that I don't like...and yet, I love the poem. It's a perfect description of the emotional impact of lost love.

WOW! Simply powerful, heartfelt and woeful, Silent One. Suicide creates haunting heartbreak for those left behind, as your poem so poetically and poignantly points out. Beautiful and sorrowful imagery grace your lines of heartache and pain.. Brilliantly expressed my friend!

Yes women like that 'they burn'. One should always listen to one's conscience I suppose, not even the kiss of life saved the day. Si you almost had me reaching for the tissues there, a mark of a great poet to take your readers on an emotional journey like this, tugging at their heart strings. You truly excel in your emotional writes. That Rumi quote...Magnifique....Maria
